Student fees and payments – please check what are you expected to pay and when

Students are reminded to check their University email address for the statement sent to them on 2 October. Please check this thoroughly for each of the following:

  • The tuition and accommodation fees that you’ve been charged for the new academic year
  • The amounts you (or your family) need to pay and the deadline for payment
  • Any amounts we are expecting to receive from third parties such as sponsors, or UK government student finance providers.

If you believe you have been charged incorrectly, or need further help understanding what you’ve been charged, please refer to the frequently asked questions below, the student handbook and the finance office website. If these don’t answer your question, please raise a query immediately. Details of the right team to contact can be found on our website.

Students who don’t pay their academic fees on time can expect to have their access to LEARN suspended until the overdue fees are paid. This could have a significant impact on your academic studies, so please review your statement now and raise any issues BEFORE payment becomes due.

For most students, your first instalment needs to be paid by 16 October and ALL payments must be made through our online payment portal. This can be accessed via:

  • the ‘Student fee payments’ link on the “Pay your fees” page of our website; or
  • the ‘MyFinance’ tile within the MyLboro app.

Please be aware that attempting to pay the University by other methods, and particularly through third parties other than Flywire (who process our international payments), may put you and/or your family at risk of fraud and financial loss. The University will not call you, or send you emails that tell you to pay through other methods – if you receive these, they are highly likely to be fraudulent. If you are in any doubt about the authenticity of a call or email, please contact Accounts Receivable.

If you are concerned about your ability to pay your fees, support is available – contact the Finance Office now to discuss your situation. Support and guidance is also available from Student Services if your financial situation is affecting your well-being.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about the payment process?
Our online payment portal will guide you through the process of payment, but if you have any questions about how to pay, please visit frequently asked questions on our website.

How much do I need to pay?
You can check the amounts that we are expecting to receive from you, and the due dates for payment by looking at:

  • The “When do you need to pay” section on the first page of your student statement. The most recent of these was sent to your University email address 2 October
  • The instalments section of “MyFinance” tile within the MyLboro app (or via Student self-service).

How do I check you’ve received my payment?
You will receive an email receipt on completion of a successful payment, and the payment normally will be applied to your account within 48 hours.

If you want to check your account has been updated, you can find a list of payments, along with an up-to-date balance, in the ‘MyFinance’ tile within the MyLboro app (or the LUSI self-service portal). Note that it can take a few days for your payment to appear in My Finance, but if your payment isn’t showing on your account one week after making payment, please contact us so we can investigate.

How do I know what have I been charged?
A high-level summary of the fees you’ve been charged can be found in the ‘MyFinance’ tile within the MyLboro app (or the LUSI self service portal).

If you need more details of the fees you’ve been charged, a less up to date, but more detailed breakdown can be found on the statements emailed to your University email address. Statements were most recently emailed to each students University email address on 2 October. Our website also provides support for understanding your statement.

Not paying your own fees?
If you are expecting your fees to be paid by a third-party organisation (such as an employer or government funding body), and this doesn’t match what is shown on your statement/in MyFinance, please ensure that you have completed the following:

  1. If you are an Undergraduate student and have already applied for a UK government loan for tuition fees, please log on to your Student Finance account to check that your tuition fee loan has been approved. If your loan application has not yet been submitted, please complete this as soon as possible – we will expect you to pay your fees until you have an approved loan application.
  2. If another third party (like your employer, a government embassy etc) will be paying your fees, please submit the Financial Guarantee letter provided by your sponsor to Student Records and Operations who will update your account.

More information on both of the above is available in the student handbook but if you need further help the University’s Student Advice and Support service can provide support to student with financial difficulties, including access to appropriate loans. Details of support available and how to make an appointment can be found on our website.
