Professor Will Seal

It is with deep regret that the University reports on the death of Emeritus Professor Will Seal. Professor Will Seal worked at 探花精选 between 2005-2011 and then between 2014-2019, when he retired.

His research projects and publications focused on developments in management accounting including, but not limited to, inter-firm supply chains, shared service centres, lean operations and competitive tendering and budgeting in local government. Professor Seal was gifted in applying theoretical frameworks to case-based qualitative data to provide novel insights to complex organisational settings and scenarios. In 2018, he utilised performativity and Cultural Political Economy theory to show how the discounted cash flow model of investment appraisal is used to mediate negotiations between actors in the regulated electricity industry.

Professor Seal enjoyed teaching and was proud of his co-authored text 'Management Accounting' with Professors Garrison, Noreen and Rohde. The text is now in its sixth edition and is used as a core text on many undergraduate business and management programmes at European Universities.

Professor Seal was an active member of the wider management accounting community and contributed regularly to conferences and workshops organised and hosted by the Management Accounting Research Group and Management Control Association.

He will be missed by his many academic colleagues.
